Adrian Martinez 2023 NFL Draft Profile

If you read any of my draft stock report posts from years ago, then you know I’m not part of the Adrian Martinez fan club. I don’t think I said a positive thing about him during his time with Nebraska. However, there is no denying Martinez provided a limited spark for Big 12 title winning Kansas State. With Martinez entering the 2023 NFL Draft, let’s check out what you need to know for his draft profile!

Not sure how we can ignore the four year production at Nebraska. I’m not talking about in a positive way either. His freshman year was by far his best. If you take the other three years, Martinez had a TD to INT ratio of 28-22. Just not something that’s ever going to be taken seriously when we’re projecting an NFL quarterback. As I said in the intro paragraph, I’m not sure I saw a worse quarterback in the Big 10 when he was there at Nebraska.

Martinez played 10 games for K State as a grad transfer. Will Howard finished the year and was probably the better overall quarterback. However, Martinez played well. More so due to the fact that K State was determined to literally make Martinez a running quarterback. Martinez had 10 rushing touchdowns compared to six passing in 2022. 111 rushing attempts compared to 118 passing. Things that need to be kept in mind here.

What exactly is Martinez at the next level? Is this someone who’s positions at the next level to be some sort of a rushing hybrid role? I don’t have an answer but no invite to the college All-Star games tells you a lot of what you need to know.

Adrian Martinez should be labeled with an undrafted grade heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. We’ve seen crazier things happen before but if Martinez is really going to stick as a quarterback, he’s going to have to fight for reps during the preseason and may need a stint in the CFL.
